Why drinking organic wine is good for your health

Wine is one of the alcoholic drinks with many health benefits if it is consumed in moderation. There have been lots of studies of how good wine is for your body and mind.

Then again, the same happened with organic food, which has become more and more popular among consumers. The reasons are similar – people invest in it, and consume organic and fresh food and drinks because they are much healthier options. The big advantage for our health is that they lack additives, pesticides, and other chemicals.

Organic wine is made from organically farmed grapes. The production of this type of wine excludes using of chemicals. Furthermore, is less costly and requires less labor.

This trend has become so popular that there even are top places to drink organic wines, USDA certified. Those who prefer it can have a good glass of organic, natural drink in an organic wine club where you can find a great selection of wines. And the prices aren’t that big at all, always keeping in the lower two figures for a bottle.

If all these haven’t yet convinced you to try organic wines, here are many health benefits from consuming it:

Made of organic grapes

The wine is all-natural because the grapes are so. Having organic grapes means organic wine has lots of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. These grapes are not treated with chemical pesticides, fungicide, fertilizers, and herbicides, which can be harmful for the health.

No synthetic additives

To be certified as organic by the US Department of Agriculture, the wine cannot contain synthetic additives to improve the flavor, aroma, texture, or color. So, no fining and clarification agents here, and certainly no sulfuric acid.

No genetically modified organisms (GMOs)

Organic farms cannot use genetic modified organisms, or GMOs. In wine production, it cannot be used a GMO yeast either.

No added sulfites

Although organic grapes can still contain sulfites in their skin, there are no additional sulfites in this type of wine. So, the wine is rather lower in sulfites than entirely sulfites-free.

Richer in nutrients and antioxidants

Organic wine is richer in nutrients antioxidants, like resveratrol. This improves heart health and the protection against arteriosclerosis and strokes, but also reduces obesity or diabetes risk.

Less sugar

Organic wine means no refined sugar. Grapes have their share of sweetness, so the consumer will have the extra benefit of enjoying the natural taste. Also, sweet isn’t something experienced wine lovers would like.

Low cholesterol

Resveratrol also helps lower the cholesterol level and accumulation, and the triglyceride level. A good organic and resveratrol-rich red wine will lower the levels of bad cholesterol by around 10%.

A lower risk of cancer

Organic wine reduces the risk of getting cancer, also with the help of resveratrol. Having a glass of red wine a few times a week inhibits one of the cancer-feeding proteins. Reducing cancer risk and cholesterol accumulation are also benefits of drinking modest wine.

Prevention of blood clots

Other antioxidant in red wine, polyphenol, increases blood vessel flexibility, thus reducing the risk of blood clots. A good blood circulation is essential for many aspects of the human health.

Better immune response

Antioxidants also work on fighting infections, so a better immune response is linked to drinking a glass of wine once in a while. Wine also reduces the risk of catching cold.

A lower risk of allergies

No sulfites means no allergic reaction to them, so the organic composition of the wine lowers the risk of allergies or intolerances. Nausea, breathing problems, vomiting, headaches are some of the symptoms associated with this type of allergy.

Better memory

Actually, is about better mental health. The same resveratrol reduces the risk of formation of a protein which is responsible for a plaque in the brain, with links to the Alzheimer’s disease.

Smoother skin

Antioxidants also help the body to improve the smoothness of the skin. These substances help controlling the bacterial growth. In this way, acne is reduced similar to the effects common treatments have.

Organic wines are eco-friendly

Producing an organic wine helps protecting the ecosystem around the vineyard, either by cutting back on the energy usage, on the water waste, or any other type of waste. There is no need to stress the importance of this contribution to the environment. By using less chemicals in the entire wine industry, the production becomes more eco-friendly.

If you are a wine lover, you probably know the importance of right storing an open bottle using a wine preserver to keep the wine fresh with every next glass.

No hangover

Last, but not least, having an artificial sulfites-free wine means ditching that painful hangover headaches. The same effect comes from less sugar, especially the added one. Also, natural wine is lower in alcohol than the most conventional wine. This not just increases the chances of a pleasant feeling in the morning, but also lets you enjoy the wine at its best.
