Born in a small village in Gujarat, India, in 1944, Shah's journey exemplifies the quintessential American success story. Growing up without basic amenities like electricity or running water, Shah focused on education as his pathway to success. After earning his engineering degree from Birla Engineering College at Sardar Patel University in 1967, Shah took a bold step in 1970, immigrating to the United States with his wife to pursue greater opportunities.

Shah has served on several prestigious boards, including at Loyola University and the Laboratory Schools of the University of Chicago from 1991 to 1998. His appointments also included serving as Vice Chairman for the Asian American Advisory Committee of Senator Paul Simon, working to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities.

In October 2023, Globetrotters Engineering Corporation celebrated its 50th anniversary—a milestone officially recognized when Illinois Governor JB Pritzker proclaimed October 16, 2023, as "Globetrotters Engineering Corporation Day," acknowledging the firm's substantial contributions to communities across the state.

Shah's commitment to giving back spans continents. In his native India, he has funded the construction of schools and medical clinics in underserved areas. Following the 2001 Gujarat earthquake, Shah was instrumental in providing disaster relief, helping airlift over 200,000 pounds of supplies to the affected region.

In recognition of his extensive contributions, Shah received the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2006, an award presented to influential leaders who have made significant contributions to American society. That same year, he was also honored with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award by the Government of India.
