Healthy Weight Loss

To truly manage weight, I believe that eating healthy and regular exercise work best. Whatever anyone might say, there is no magic shortcut that you can take to shed those extra kilos you do not want or need. It may seem like I am stating the obvious, but the fact is that many people overlook this more than a little too often. So why am I writing about home remedies for weight loss? Well, because there are natural recipes and remedies that you can combine with a healthy diet and exercise to reach your ultimate weight loss goal. Let us take a look at some of the best ones, shall we?

Home Remedies to Help You Lose Weight

Here is a look at some of the best home remedies that can help you with your weight loss goals. They are safe and natural and do wonders to improve your overall health too.

Drink Plenty of Water

I just cannot emphasize the importance of drinking as much water as possible enough. When I started my weight loss journey, I made the mistake of not drinking enough because it made me feel bloated and I thought it was adding to my weight. How mistaken was I? Drinking water gives your metabolism a boost through a process called water-induced thermogenesis. Drinking a glass of cold or room-temperature water causes your system to burn calories so that it heats up to your body temperature.

Increase your water intake by 1.5 liters a day – this can help you lose 5.3 pounds of body fat (17,400 calories) over the course of a year.
Drinking 1 glass of water before each meal is also a good idea as it makes you feel full and will keep you from overeating.

Cinnamon Tea

Blood sugar has an effect on how hungry and energetic you are, which means that it directly impacts your weight. And the more energetic you are, the more likely you are to exercise! If your blood sugar is balanced, it is less likely that you will have an appetite that is disproportionately large, and your body will also use fat instead of storing it. I have read about studies showing that cinnamon can help in managing blood sugar levels and have started drinking cinnamon tea regularly. You should too!
Add 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to a mug of boiling water and cover with a lid.
Allow it to steep for 15 minutes before you strain it.
Drink this spicy cinnamon tea 1 to 2 times a day.

Green Tea and Ginger

You probably already know that green tea is one of the most powerful antioxidants. It burns all those stubborn fats in your body if you drink it regularly. I drink my green tea without sugar to get all its real benefits. Another little trick I use? I add a bit of ginger. Why? Well, ginger with this beneficial tea helps in improving digestion, which we know is important for effective weight loss.
Place ½ an inch of peeled and finely chopped fresh ginger root or ½ a teaspoon of ground ginger and green tea in a sieve or strainer to 8 ounces of boiling water and cover with a lid.
Steep for 3 to 4 minutes – keep in mind that when you steep green tea for too long, it can taste bitter.
If you need to sweeten your tea, add a little raw honey. Make sure to keep away from sugar or milk no matter what.
Drink 1 to 2 cups of this tea every day on an empty stomach.

Ginseng

When I first started trying to lose weight, I read a lot about different natural ingredients that could help me meet my goals and I came across ginseng. I found out that it can stimulate a slow metabolism and also fight fatigue and give your energy a boost. This is beneficial for weight loss because if you do not have energy, it is difficult to exercise. And if you do not exercise, it is almost impossible to shed those unwanted kilos, at least in a healthy way. There are two types of ginseng – American (Panax quinquefolius) and Korean or Asian (Panax ginseng). You can use either to help you lose weight.
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of roughly chopped American or Asian ginseng.
Allow it to steep for 5 to 9 minutes and then strain.
If you like, you can add a bit of honey or fresh lemon juice – I do.
Drink this ginseng tea 1 to 2 times a day for best results.

Rose Petal Water

I happen to love rose water – I use it regularly on my skin. You can imagine my delight when I found out that rose petal water has many benefits for weight loss, although the evidence is more anecdotal than hard facts. Rose petals act as a mild diuretic, encouraging your kidneys to put more salt, or sodium, into your urine. This, in turn, helps in drawing water from your blood and reducing the amount of water in your circulatory system. While this is not permanent weight loss, the action does cause you to drink more and flush your system and keep it hydrated. Believe it or not, I have found that staying hydrated can help immensely with weight loss.
Place a pot with a tight-fitting lid on the stove with a handful of fresh or dried rose petals.
Add just the right amount of distilled water to cover the petals completely.
Cover the pot and simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rose petals lose most of their color.
Strain the liquid into a glass jar and store it in your refrigerator for up to 6 days.
Drink ½ to 1 cup of your homemade rose petal water every morning on an empty stomach.

Plain Yogurt and Honey

This is my favorite snack, and sometimes I have it for breakfast too. Yogurt has probiotics that do wonders for the digestive tract and helps in balancing gut flora. This, in turn, helps in optimizing digestion, as well as the breakdown of certain substances, such as fat. What about the honey? Well, I just add a bit for some healthy sweetness – it also helps reduce cravings and makes me feel fuller.
Take ½ or 1 cup of plain yogurt. Add 1 tablespoon of raw organic honey if you like.
Eat this whenever you want a snack or for breakfast.
I add oats or fresh fruit when I want a little variety – feel free to do the same.

Sage Tea

Because we live in such a hectic world, we are stressed about something or the other every day. Constant stress can have a damaging impact on different functions, including weight gain or weight loss. The body releases cortisol when it is under stress and this steroid hormone can affect the level of blood sugar in your body and cause energy to be stored as fat. I like sipping on sage tea as I have found that it really does have a calming effect on the body and mind.
Pour 8 ounces of boiling water over a handful of fresh sage or 2 teaspoons of dried sage in a pot.
Allow it to steep for 4 to 5 minutes and then strain.
You can add lemon to improve the flavor if you wish to.
Sip on this amazing tea 1 to 2 times a day.

Dandelion and Peppermint Tea

Did you know that your liver plays a crucial role not only in detoxifying your body but also in a number of metabolic processes – many of which affect weight? Well, I found out while finding out natural ways to help me lose weight. It was then that I also found out that dandelion and peppermint benefit the liver. They stimulate the production of bile automatically in the liver, aiding with digestion as well as nutrient absorption by the body. When you combine the two, what you get is a potent tea that protects your liver and keeps it functioning optimally to help with weight loss, among other things.
Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon each of dried dandelion leaves and dried peppermint leaves.
Cover and let it steep for 5 to 10 minutes.
Strain and drink 1 cup of this tea every day.
You can add a bit of lemon juice if you like.
You may also make this tea with fresh dandelion and peppermint leaves. All you have to do is use a handful of them. Make sure that the leaves you use do not have any chemicals applied to them, especially when it comes to dandelion. If you regularly use dandelion, I strongly recommend that you grow your own.

Apple Cider Vinegar

I absolutely think the world of apple cider vinegar! How could you not? It has so many benefits and is one of the most popular ingredients for home remedies used to treat a wide range of skin and health conditions. It has been proven that ACV can benefit in weight loss. I have actually used it and I got excellent results. This is a simple yet effective home remedy for weight loss and provides a wealth of other benefits as well.
Mix raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water.
Drink this every morning.
Doing this on a regular basis will help you eliminate unwanted fats and lose weight in no time.
You can also drink 1 tablespoon of ACV mixed with warm water 10 minutes before a main meal.
For best results, do this 3 times a day.

Cabbage

Do you want to know which vegetable is one of the best for helping with weight loss? Cabbage! It contains tartaric acid, which prevents carbohydrates and sugar from being converted into fat. I actually tried this remedy and found it to be incredibly effective. Cabbage also contains dietary fiber, which plays an important role in weight loss. Increase your cabbage intake to lose weight fast and healthily.
Eat a cabbage salad instead of your usual meal regularly.
Include more raw cabbage in your daily diet to gain the benefits it has to offer.

Warm Honey Water

Another natural remedy I used to lose unwanted kilos was warm honey water. I found that it was really effective in burning fat, so I drank this solution regularly. After a while, I noticed that only was my weight going down, but my skin looked amazing too – more radiant and healthier than it has ever been. You may have heard or read that drinking water is great for losing weight and for improving the skin. If you hate the taste of warm water, add raw organic honey and it will become more tolerable.
Drink 1 glass of warm honey water early in the morning.
Do this every day until you get the results you want.
It is a good idea to continue with this remedy as it is extremely beneficial.

Coconut Oil

Want to know how I have maintained my weight after meeting my weight loss goals? I use coconut oil. This amazing oil boosts metabolism and helps in reducing appetite and food cravings. Plus, the medium-chain triglycerides in this oil also use up fat for energy and help the body burn calories. Do not make the mistake of cutting out healthy fats from your diet when trying to lose weight – this will actually have the opposite effect. Remember that you need a good supply of healthy fats every day if you want to lose weight.
Replace your normal cooking oil with coconut oil.
Take 2 or 3 tablespoons of organic virgin coconut oil daily – you can do this with or without food.

Lemon and Black Pepper

PC: www.pexels.com/

One of the oldest folk remedies for weight loss is lemon juice. It helps in detoxifying the liver and metabolism of fats. On the other hand, black pepper contains piperine, a compound that helps to reduce the levels of fat in the blood. Black pepper also enhances lemon juice’s effectiveness as a natural weight loss aid. I personally have not tried this remedy, but know people who have and they swear by it. It is definitely worth a try.
Mix the juice of ½ a fresh lemon in 1 glass of water.
Add a few sprinkles (4 to 6 turns of your pepper grinder) of black pepper.
Drink this mixture 3 times a day for best results.

Milk Thistle

According to experts, a “fatty liver” or a poorly functioning liver is one of the causes of people gaining weight, and also being unable to lose weight. I have read that studies have shown that a sluggish liver can cause weight loss to slow down by at least 30%. This is why detoxifying the liver – the body’s most major fat-burning and eliminatory organ – is extremely important. This is where milk thistle comes in. It is a super-herb that detoxes and repairs the liver. Get your liver in optimal working condition to help with weight loss by taking milk thistle.
Take a milk thistle supplement, which you will find in the form of capsules. These supplements are available in most health food stores and well as on the Internet.
Follow the directions on the bottle for the correct dosage.

Note:  I strongly recommend consulting your doctor before taking a milk thistle supplement. If you are taking medications for a condition, it might interfere with them or cause an adverse reaction.

Eat More Fiber

PC: upload.wikimedia.org/

Dietary fiber has many benefits, including helping with weight loss. I personally love foods that are rich in fiber and include them in my daily diet. You definitely should too. Roughage, or insoluble fiber, adds bulk to food but does not add any calories. It makes you feel fuller for a longer period as well, which is good news for anyone who wants to eat less and shed some unwanted pounds.

Add more foods with soluble fiber to your diet. These include barley, oats, rye, oranges, plums, apples, potatoes, carrots, lentils, kidney beans, soybeans, cucumber, etc.
Find out more about fiber and good sources of the nutrient to gain the benefits they have to offer.

As you can see, there are a number of great home remedies that you can use to help you lose weight. I have tried most of them and can tell you in earnest that they do indeed work. Do what I did – chuck those diet pills and forget about those diet trends that keep popping up and go for remedies to get rid of that unwanted weight naturally and safely instead.
