As a TV personality Megan Kelly’s diet is extremely simple so that it’s easy to follow and effective. Meghan Kelly eats a very high protein, high fiber diet to suppress an excessive appetite, to manage hunger, eliminate junk food cravings and for weight loss. 

Tanya Zuckerbrot, the author of Megyn Kelly’s weight loss and diet book, F-Factor created a high fiber foods program. It allows you to eat the carbohydrates necessary for energy without gaining bulk. Fiber is the best because it is a zero-calorie, non-digestible part of a carbohydrate that adds bulk to food. 

We often cut out carbs to lose weight but they actually fuel our bodies and cutting them out leads to you feeling tired, cranky and weak. When you stop eating carbs it can trigger excess snacking and feeling deprived which is not consistent with weight loss. It takes a long time to burn foods with cardiovascular activities. Eating one slice of pizza (~350 calories) would take 59 minutes of walking (at an average of 3.5 calories per minute) to burn off. Cardio (in running, elliptical, walking) also stimulates appetite and leaves people feeling hungry, so they end up eating more than if they hadn’t worked out.

Strength/resistance training is more effective than cardiovascular activity in preservation of precious muscle mass. A study done by the Journal of Applied Physiology showed that resistance training significantly increased lean body mass in participants, while cardiovascular exercise significantly decreased it.

Eating in the morning jump-starts your metabolism for the day, making it extremely important to consume breakfast. Research states that breakfast eaters burn calories more efficiently throughout the day and are more likely to be slimmer than non-breakfast eaters. Consumption of breakfast is key to success on the F-Factor diet because it is an opportunity to easily eat half your daily fiber needs before noon. Megyn Kelly makes sure her go-to breakfast is as nutritious and fibrous as possible.

Megyn extends this rule of theF-Factor book, during her third meal of the day, keeping things filling and tasty each time she sits down to a meal. Megyn Kelly prepares a simple dinner of vegetables and healthy lean protein sources from chicken to tuna. 

Research shows that fiber and protein have a high satiety benefit in calorie-controlled diets and in weight reduction. This method keeps you feeling full, for the longest period of time, on the fewest calories. The more satisfied you are after a meal, the less likely you’ll be to overeat at the next meal; and, therefore, the more likely you’ll be to lose weight.

Consuming smaller meals throughout the day also keeps metabolism burning efficiently and prevents excessive hunger (which can lead to clouded judgment when selecting foods and overeating at the next meal). Many people believe that by skipping meals, they will save on calories, and lose more weight. However, skipping meals may inhibit weight loss and even lead to weight gain over time.

It can lead to weight loss because if your body  is deprived of food for many hours between meals, it starts conserving fuel and burning fewer calories to protect itself from starving. If your metabolism slows down, it inhibits weight loss despite reduced caloric intake. In addition, skipping meals causes sugar levels to fall. Low blood sugar can cause sudden hunger pangs, which can trigger bingeing and food cravings. Does Megyn Kelly maintain her slim figure from the strains of sleep deprivation?

According to Kelly, she struggles to get enough sleep. The mom of 3 admitted that juggling a job that requires working at night is not easy. It’s hard to say after looking at the anchor’s slim figure but Kelly has three small children (with writer husband Douglas Brunt). Megyn said she hates to work out, but exercises regularly to stay skinny. 

Even after eating a healthy diet, sleep deprivation puts the TV host at risk of gaining weight, suffering poor heart health, and even experiencing early death.

Why is sleep important?

The amount and quality of your sleep affects the hormones (leptin and ghrelin) that control feelings of hunger and fullness, thus impacting weight loss efforts. Ghrelin, which is produced in the GI tract, stimulates appetite, causing you to feel hungry. Leptin, which is produced in the fat cells, is responsible for sending a signal to your brain that you are full.

When you’re well rested these hormones work in balance; however, when you are sleep deprived, leptin levels plummet and ghrelin levels rise, setting the stage for overeating or one to many cheat meals. Low leptin levels mean your braindoesn’t get the message you are full/ you don’t feel satisfied after you eat. Elevated ghrelin levels mean stimulated appetite. A University of Chicago 2004 study found that when sleep was restricted to 4 hrs per night over 2 nights, leptin dropped by 18%, while ghrelin increased by an average of 28%. After sleeping poorly subjects were more inclined to eat sugary, refined carbs.

Sleep deprivation also leads to exaggerated feelings of hunger during the day, even if we’ve had enough to eat. That’s why we have to aim for 7.5 hours of sleep for a good night’s sleep and help prevent you from overeating the next day. 

Megyn Kelly Believes in Fat Shaming For Weight Loss

“I was publicly fat shammed early on in my career and it sent me to therapy. Trust me, there are real life ramifications for fat shaming of any kind, it is NEVER acceptable. We should be fostering a healthy culture that celebrates all women of all sizes.” 

Many cannot believe it to be true but Megyn Kelly shared her unique take on weight loss drawing from her own experience. On the TODAY Show, Megyn spoke to Maria Kang about how some people want to be fat shamed. Megyn went on to say that she gained weight while she was in law school, and asked her stepfather to “shame” her in order to help her lose weight. “I said to my stepfather, ‘If you see me going into that kitchen one more time, you say, ‘Where you going, fat ass!’ And it works!”

Why did Megyn Kelly have to apologize for fat-shaming?

In an interview with “Fit Mom” Maria Kang on the TODAY Show on Thursday, host Megyn Kelly shared some sensitive comments. Maria King was called to talk with Megyn about her new stance on fitness and body image.

After revealing a controversial image in 2013 of herself in a workout outfit with her three kids, she captioned, “What’s your excuse?”, critics felt that she was fat-shaming moms who were not there yet or don’t want to be. In conversation with Megyn, Maria wanted to shift away from that message and focus instead on motivating women. “That was never my intent,” she told Megyn about body-shaming. 

Backlash would soon follow Megyn Kelly. She started her show by addressing the issue head on.

“I said something yesterday on the show that clearly struck a nerve, and I think it’s a conversation we need to have openly. We were discussing body-shaming others, something I absolutely do not support. In fact, quite the opposite.”

While Megyn said she’s body-shamed herself in the past to gain control over her weight (and knows many other women who do the same), she doesn’t condone that unhealthy thinking. “I do not endorse this reality, the truth is—I loathe it.”

Why did Megyn Kelly experience fat-shaming?

Megyn Kelly opened up about her own experience with weight gain, including a family history of obesity and a father who died in his forties, as well as being fat-shamed growing up. 

“I was chubby, by any standard and soon I found myself on the wrong side of some vicious bullies. Ones who called me fat, and made fun of my backside, who subjected me to humiliating pranks. Those comments can cut deep, trust me, I know.” She explained that she took to diet pills, extreme calorie restriction, and “obsessive exercise” to control her weight, but she was “so unhappy” at the time. 

Sadly, the tv anchor still deals with body image issues under the scrutiny of the cameras. 

“Please know, I would never encourage [body-shaming] toward any person. I’ve been thinking a lot about why I once encouraged it toward myself. What I know for sure is that weight is an issue for millions of people, thin and heavy alike. And neither deserves to be judged or shamed for how they choose to handle that struggle.”

Kelly added: “I absolutely do not support” fat-shaming and “would never encourage that toward any person.” 

Megyn Kelly stated that her entire family “is or has been overweight or obese,” and when she was in school bullies “called me fat, and made fun of my backside, [and] subjected me to humiliating pranks,” 

She continued to explain about being “so unhappy” while taking diet pills and only eating 500 calories a day to get thin. “Weight is an issue for millions of people, thin and heavy alike,” Kelly said. “And neither deserves to be judged or shamed for how they choose to handle that struggle.” 

For many people, Megyn Kelly’s remarks on body shaming, was an eye opening experience. Megyn Kelly exposed the wounds of weight loss saying that it had life-long repercussions because it is after all a form of serious emotional damage.
