All the Rage About CBD Oil- But Is It Really Safe and Effective?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a drug extracted primarily from the hemp plant that has exploded in popularity over the last five years. According to a few reports, the Google search word “CBD” remained relatively stable from 2004 to 2014, but it has since risen by up to 605 per cent. Cannabis sativa, often known as marijuana or hemp, contains the compound cannabidiol. The Cannabis sativa plant contains more than 80 chemicals called cannabinoids.

Although, the main active ingredient in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabidiol can also be derived from hemp, which contains just trace amounts of THC. CBD is usually regarded as a healthy drug when applied topically or taken by mouth. However, there are several possible side effects to be aware of while using this drug. Some of the side effects that have been reported in studies are Diarrhoea, Appetite & weight changes and Fatigue.

CBD- Safe and effective?

When taken orally or sprayed under the tongue as directed, cannabidiol is possibly safe. Dosages of 1200 to 1500 mg per day have been taken orally for up to 4 weeks with no side effects. Epidiolex, a prescription cannabidiol medication, is authorized for oral administration in doses up to 25 mg/kg per day. Under-the-tongue cannabidiol sprays in concentrations of 2.5 mg have been used for up to two weeks.

Possible Side Effects of CBD

Dry mouth, low blood pressure, light-headedness, and drowsiness have all been identified as cannabidiol side effects. Few patients taking higher doses of Epidiolex have also shown signs of liver damage.

Continue reading some side effects below:

1. Drowsiness

Drowsiness and sedation are two of the most common CBD side effects. While this is an advantage, a physician and chief medical officer for a CBD brand, warns that perhaps the effects could be too severe if you are still taking other sedative drugs.

2. Problems with the Gastrointestinal System

When using CBD, some people can experience diarrhoea or liver problems. This one is based on the person and their medical records, so it is crucial to keep an eye on them.

3. Mouth Dryness

CBD, also recognized as a “cottonmouth,” can make the mouth and eyes feel dry, according to Dr Brent A. Bauer of Mayo Clinic. Although THC is more likely to cause this side effect, CBD may also cause it.

4. Other Medications Could Interact

CBD can interact with the medications you are currently taking including blood thinners. According to Dr Matharu-Daley, it is necessary to discuss with your doctor whether CBD could interfere with your current medications.

5. Nausea

CBD supplement users can experience nausea in certain cases, according to doctors. This is dependent on the individual’s sensitivity to CBD as well as the amount consumed.

Since CBD supplements come in various types, including oils, gummies, tinctures, and vapours, the amount of CBD that is ultimately absorbed varies greatly. This, coupled with the unique characteristics of each person, will eventually determine which (if there are any) CBD side effects can you encounter.

Final Verdict

It has been approved for the treatment of two forms of epilepsy. Apart from Epidiolex, state laws on CBD use differ. Although CBD is being researched as a cure for a variety of ailments, there is still a lack of evidence to back up the drug’s claims.

A few CBD manufacturers have come under fire from the government for making outlandish, unsubstantiated statements, such as that CBD is a cancer remedy, which it is not. More research is needed, but CBD can prove to be an effective treatment for insomnia, anxiety, and chronic pain.

We cannot pinpoint appropriate doses without enough high-quality data from human trials, it is hard to determine exactly what you are getting because CBD is generally accessible as an uncontrolled supplement. Whether you plan to try CBD, speak to your doctor first to make sure it would not interfere with any other drugs you are already taking.

If you have any doubts regarding the safety of your current CBD goods, and please do yourself a favour and discard them. CBD oil is a concentrated plant-based extract that enters your body; consider it to be of the same high quality as the foods you consume.
