Celine Dion has stunned fans with her recent weight loss. The singer does not look like the Celine Dion we know, could she be losing more and more weight every single day? The “My Heart Will Go On” hitmaker has been looking noticeably slimmer following the death of her husband René Angélil in 2016. Recovering from her loss, Dion returned to the stage for what became an annual summer tour beginning in 2016 and her Las Vegas residency, before announcing it would conclude in June 2019.
So was her work and her husband’s death getting to be too much for the singer? There are some facts that need to be discussed about Celine Dion’s weight loss before we jump into “Whitney Houston’s MJ Tribute” weight loss repeating itself.
For the last 16 years, Celine Dion has been singing and dancing to sold out crowds. As a young child, she had recorded nine French albums and won numerous awards by the time she was 18. But Celine Dion’s real breakthrough into pop music stardom came in 1992 when she recorded the theme to Disney’s hit animated feature Beauty and the Beast. But she’s more well known for her hits, including: “Because You Loved Me,” “My Heart Will Go On” and “I’m Your Angel.”
Celine Dion’s Incredible Weight Loss
What we got wrong about the Celine Dion weight loss news:
She is not anorexic:
Celine Dion has always had to deny claims that she has an unhealthy diet. She admitted to The Guardian: “I’m not anorexic. It pisses people off that I am thin and I don’t make any effort, I have been thin all my life. Nobody in my family is overweight.”
But it was during Paris Fashion week in 2019 where it was quite obvious that Celine had a major weight loss. Many were worried that she was dangerously skinny but it could also be a natural aging process for some women.
Paris Fashion week was actually a way for Celine to express herself:
Talking to The Sun’s Dan Wootton about her approach to fashion and health since the death of her husband Rene, Celine explained: “I’m doing this for me. I want to feel strong, beautiful, feminine and sexy.”
And as for criticism of her slimmer frame, Celine added: “If I like it, I don’t want to talk about it. Don’t bother. Don’t take a picture. If you like it, I’ll be there. If you don’t, leave me alone.”
More than a year and a half recovering from the heartbreak of her husband’s death, Celine explained to People magazine how her entry into the fashion world took her thoughts off her losses as she focuses on growing her budding business.
“It’s amazing how a little bit of fantasy can alter our moods,” the 49-year-old told the magazine.
“I’ve always loved fashion, from as far back as I can remember,” she said. “But as everyone knows, I’ve gone through some extremely difficult times in recent years, and I suppose that I’m spreading my wings a little bit more these days and doing so with the help of beautiful clothing and accessories.”
Fashion and running a business can “have a huge influence on how we feel from day-to-day,” Dion said.
“Fashion is fun. Fashion is fantasy,” she added. “It can often provide the escape that we need to take our minds of our daily problems, even if only for a short but necessary time.”
Criticism from her fans:
While many fans have defended the singer stating that she has always been thin, other fans are more concerned.
“She needs to eat. She honestly has an issue with weight loss. She may think she looks good skinny but she is dead wrong. She looks awful. She looks way older than what she actually is. She looks 70 and she is 51”.
“Why Celine? Why are you going to a New World Order ? You look like satan sucked humanity out of… come back Celine, take care of yourself and your soul, sing for us, Your voice is a gift from Heaven, leave evil plays…I Love you, God bless You ❤”
“I’ve never seen her look this skinny,” another said, “She looks so fragile and looks like her bones can crack with just a touch.[Definitely] something wrong here. Brings back memories of Karen Carpenter. Just saying.”
Possible weight loss reasons for Celine Dion:

Losing her husband to Cancer:
In 1994, Dion married Rene Angelil, who was 26 years her senior and her manager.
The late Rene Angélil was born on January 16, 1942, and was a Canadian musical producer, talent manager to Celine and singer.
In 1980, at the age of 12, Dion recorded a demo tape of a song she had written with her mother. They sent the tape to the manager and producer Rene Angelil who then invited her to audition. After she performed for him in person, Angelil signed her immediately under the condition that he would have complete control over her career.
He began by taking the teen and her mother on tour in Canada, Japan and Europe. Meanwhile Angelil and his second wife had divorced in the 1980s, and, around this same time, he and Dion had begun a romantic relationship. In 1991 they tied the knot at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica in an elaborate ceremony that was celebrated throughout Canada.
He mortgaged his house in 1981 to finance her first album, La Voix du bon Dieu (The Voice of God).
Back in 1991, Rene suffered a heart attack at the age of 49. Just 9 years later, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and made a full recovery after treatment. In 2009, Rene reportedly underwent a heart-related medical procedure to deal with arterial blockage.
Sadly by 2013 he had more surgery for throat cancer.
In June 2014 Rene left his managerial position to focus on his health, but was still involved in business decisions related to her career. Later in August, Dion canceled all of her shows scheduled through March 22, 2015, to focus on her 72-year-old husband, whose throat cancer returned, and her children. “I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband’s healing, and to do so, it’s important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children,” the singer said in a statement.
In a 2015 interview with USA Today, the singer spoke about her husband’s battle with cancer: “When you see someone who is fighting so hard, it has a big impact on you,” she said. “You have two choices. You look at your husband who’s very sick and you can’t help, and it kills you. Or you look at your husband that’s sick and you say, ‘I got you. I got it. I’m here. It’s going to be just fine.’
Celine announced that Rene’s cancer had progressed and that he had only “months to live” in 2015. Early next year, Angelil lost his battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 73 in the family’s Las Vegas home.
Losing her brother to Cancer:
The Grammy winning singer Celine Dion lost not only her husband René Angélil to cancer, but also her brother Daniel to the very same disease on Jan. 16, 2016. Rene Angelil lost his battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 73 in the family’s Las Vegas home.
Just two days after her husband passed, Dion lost her brother Daniel Dion, who had spent his final days in a palliative care residence outside of Montreal, Canada, in their home province of Quebec.
Throat inflammation:
While her husband was dealing with many health issues, Celine herself dealt with her own health issues in 2014: according to a press release, she had “inflammation in her throat muscles” which prevented her from performing in her Las Vegas show. The singer apologized for “inconveniencing her fans” and was grateful for their support during her hiatus from performing.
Picking up a new hobby with dancing:

The star stated that she has been tapping her shoes with her stylist and close friend Pepe Munoz. Celine and Friend Pepe Muñoz have been photographed dancing the night away and it even got them into some controversial topics. Luckily, Celine Dion cleared all the rumours.
She credited her dancing hobby for her slim frame. Celine explained to People magazine: “Dancing has been in my DNA all of my life. It’s a dream. And so hard! “I do [ballet practice] four times a week. People say, ‘She’s a lot thinner’ but I’m working hard. I like to move and [weight loss] comes with it.”
Celine even spoke about the combination of her busy schedule, which is filled with performances, rehearsals and lots of dancing, is what’s responsible for her weight loss to People.
Golf:
If dancing is the Grammy winners passion it goes without saying that she doesn’t workout in any gym for exercise. Instead she just loves to play golf. Did you know that golfing is the type of sports activity that is actually considered to be a healthy form of cardiovascular exercise? Not only is it good for the heart, it’s a form of exercise that reduces the amount of cholesterol, speeds up the person’s metabolic process, and even helps in weight loss.
What does Celine Dion eat?
The french singer sticks to her French roots when it comes to her breakfast. With a blast of caffeine and a delicious buttery pastry, Celine can kick off her day. She once told The Hollywood Reporter that a croissant and a coffee in an espresso cup is her normal breakfast.
Between her meals, Dion loves to snack on fruits, in the form of pineapples, melons and cherries. The singer even asks for new fruit to be kept backstage, even making it clear that she was interested in fruit that was as fresh as possible.
For lunch also she enjoys traditional French dishes. For example, the star was served cauliflower vichyssoise, a dense soup made of boiled, pureed vegetables such as leeks, onions, potatoes and, in her case, cold-served cauliflower and cream during a lunchtime interview with a Vanity Fair reporter.
When it comes to dinner, the meals are more indulgent. During this time the mother of 3 loves to mix up all sorts of distinct cuisines for her evening dinner: from American to French to Italian. Her late husband and manager, Rene Angelil, came from Syria and Lebanon, so during the mealtimes of her family, she likes to honor and celebrate his heritage.
