MI vs DC: Today’s IPL Match Predictions and Top Performers

MI vs DC Today’s IPL Match Predictions

After 59 gruelling games in these extremely strange times, it has all come down to this. Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final of the 2020 edition of the IPL. The Dubai International Stadium will host this clash of the titans. MI and DC made up the top two of the table during the league stage of the competition as well. The Mumbai Indians showed great depth  by winning 10 out of their 15 games despite captain and run machine Rohit Sharma missing a few games because of injury. Despite missing their star batsman, the Mumbai Indians put up some scintillating batting performances throughout the tournament. But it’s the bowling attack of the Mumbai Indians that has been breathing fire. Jaspreet Bumrah and Trent Boult have grabbed a scarcely believable 49 wickets among themselves. The bowling attack has been bolstered by the Pandya brothers and Kieron Pollard as well. So even though Rohit Sharma hasn’t really been a major factor in the team’s success so far, the defending champions should feel confident about their chances of repeating.

The Delhi Capitals, until the Qualifier 2 matchup against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, had been in terrible form. They had lost five out of their last six games prior to the qualifier. However, they came out swinging against the Sunrisers and sent them packing with a masterful performance with the bat. They were led by Marcus Stoinis, who was great on both ends of the game.

Adding Shikhar Dhawan and Kagiso Rabada, both of whom rank among the top players with bat and ball respectively, to the equation only sweetens the deal for the Capitals. A worrying sign for the Delhi Capitals is the struggling Rishabh Pant. He is supposed to be a great weapon in this format of the game but he hasn’t delivered the goods yet. However, Shimron Hetmyer and Shreyas Iyer should prove to be a handful for the MI bowlers.

As far as the previous clashes in this tournament are concerned,, Mumbai Indians have totally dominated the Delhi Capitals. They won both their league matches and comfortably won the Qualifier 1 with 57 runs as well. If you include IPL 2019, the Mumbai Indians have beaten the Delhi Capitals four times in a row.

So, with the IPL 2020 trophy up for grabs, will Mumbai Indians manage to retain the status quo or will the Delhi Capitals end their skid and lift the IPL trophy for the very first time? Let’s take a look at the match predictions for one last time before this edition of the IPL goes into the books.

Pitch Prediction

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium’s pitch is a batting beauty. The last time the Mumbai Indians played here, they put up a mammoth 200 on the board. The pitch does offer some swing but change of pace will be the key. One side of the ground is bigger than the other and the batsmen will most likely be mindful about that with their stroke making. The asymmetrical ground and a non turning pitch might end up being a graveyard for the spinners. Even though this is a favourable batting surface, it might deteriorate a little as the game goes on. So, batting first will be ideal and a 170+ total should be competitive, given the pressure of the final.

Final Prediction

Chasing might have been the norm in the IPL so far but the Delhi Capitals proved in their Qualifier 2 win that if you can put a massive score on board while batting first, you are more likely to win. Since the Dubai International Cricket Stadium’s pitch is a batting beauty, winning the toss and batting first seems like the logical decision. Compound that with the pressure of playing in the final game of the tournament, and batting first starts appearing as an even better choice. A score of 170+ should prove to be enough to prevail in the end and hoist the trophy.
