Post Graduate Diploma in Management is a diploma course in the management stream. Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Post Graduate Program in Management, and Master of Business Administration are all management courses at the master level. All the courses are business-oriented. All the courses have similar outcomes employment wise, but there are some subtle differences too.
MBA vs Post Graduate Diploma in Management
The major differences between the two degrees are as follows:
- Degree vs Diploma
At the end of the MBA program, candidates are offered a degree, but in PGP or PGDM, candidates are awarded a diploma. Like IIMs, Xavier, and SP Jain, most of the autonomous colleges in India offer diploma courses. But recently Indian government passed an act that allows IIMs to offer degrees instead of diplomas.
MBA course curriculum is designed by the university under which the college is. All the colleges under this university have the same syllabus. Whereas in Diploma courses, the colleges can design the courses according to the requirements of the industry. PGDM has the upper hand here.
- Fake Colleges
Since most colleges offering MBA are affiliated with a university, these colleges will be properly accredited. But in the case of diploma courses, smaller autonomous colleges may not have proper accreditation status. So do proper research before joining these diploma courses offered by autonomous colleges.
Even though both the courses have the same core subjects, the MBA course focuses more on theoretical and technical aspects. The latter focuses on practical approaches depending upon the market requirements.
The MBA program is more affordable when compared to the PGDM program as MBA programs are mostly offered by government-approved universities and colleges.
Even though there are these many differences, both programs have equal value in the corporate world. All you have to do is choose the right course that supports and improves your professional career.

About the Startup
This is a Bangalore-based ed-tech startup started by Hardik Thakkar and Upneet Grover, who found themselves unable to choose the right college for their PG studies due to the lack of proper guidance. So, they decided to start a social college search platform, which will guide the students who are in the same situation as they were. They started GetMyUni in February 2015. Initially, they created campus ambassadors and in-product marketing programs to receive student reviews about colleges. It was a huge success. In the beginning, they were only making enough revenue to run the business, but they received funding of $50,000 from Tlabs later.
Upneet, in an interview, said that they aim to build the strongest recommendation tool that can help students who are misguided by the offline consultants. He also believes that if there is an appropriate portal, which can create a set of college recommendations based on the student’s background, marks, and abilities, that product will be a super success by using advanced algorithms.
