Alejandro Betancourt Lopez Engages in Revolutionary Marketing for Hawkers Sunglasses

The sunglasses were recently featured in HypeBeast in an article that lauded the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly sunglasses that are also affordable. The HypeBeast article highlighted the H2O limited-edition collection that is made from plastic waste that comes from the ocean. The capsule collection has six different models and of which use sustainable plastic and biodegradable materials.

This fund has invested in a number of great companies, and Hawkers is one of them. Hawkers had been started in Spain with a mission to deliver high-quality sunglasses that were designer and looked great but were affordably priced. This mission quickly attracted people to the brand, and it became popular among young buyers. 

However, Hawkers was having some financial trouble, and that’s where Alejandro Betancourt came in. He raised funds of 50 million Euros for the company, allowing it to grow and become more effective. This got the company listed as one of the top 10 2018 startups in Spain. Alejandro Betancourt wanted to strengthen the company further by putting in a new CEO who would lead the company’s business development and operations. Alejandro Betancourt became the president of Hawkers, and he has helped the company become an international fashion brand that is known for its style and appeal among young customers. 

Alejandro Betancourt knew that Hawkers had become a strong brand in Spain, but he wanted to build on that success and distribute the sunglasses to everywhere in Europe as well as to North America and Asia. He added to his investment in the company with 20 million more Euros. This gave him a 50% controlling interest in the company as a major shareholder. The company has continued to strengthen under his leadership. “Never stop trying,” Alejandro Betancourt said about the company. He continues to push it to be its best around the world.

There are now more than 200 employees of Hawkers. The firm has offices from Barcelona to Hong Kong and from Mexico City to Los Angeles. It is in markets in more than 50 countries. More than 4.5 Hawkers sunglass units have been sold around the world, and the company has an annual revenue of more than $100 million. This is a far cry from the original $300 investment in the company made by its founders in 2013.

Revolutionary Marketing

Alejandro Betancourt helped to grow the company in part by engaging in smart marketing tactics that stayed at the cutting edge of marketing and branding. His approach to marketing has been called visionary, as it started to have a strong presence on social media before many companies were engaging in that type of marketing. He used viral and influencer marketing to help build the brand into a global powerhouse. The company now has more than 6.5 million followers on Facebook (Meta), more than 1.5 million on Instagram, and 188,000 followers on Twitter. 

One of the problems that he saw with buying sunglasses online was that customers couldn’t actually try them on and simply see how they feel. He also knew that viral marketing was needed to take the company into being a major player in sunglasses. He strongly invested in online marketing with much of the focus being on Facebook.

To spread the word about the sunglasses online and to allow for people to try them on, he created an ambassador program that focused on college students who have more than 1,000 followers on Instagram. He pursued this demographic and made them ambassadors for the brand. These ambassadors could then put on parties and special events that would call attention to the brand. This gave the ambassadors some experience in business marketing as well as them earning concert tickets and other prizes. Today there are more than 5,000 of these ambassadors who continue to market the brand. 

Another part of Alejandro Betancourt’s marketing was to partner with both talented entertainers and with popular, high-visibility companies. It has now partnered with Usher, Lionel Messi, and other sports and entertainment stars. It has also partnered with companies from Mercedes Benz to PayPal and Ford.
