Let not this women’s day be only a day for celebration.

The day this society stops considering women as the lesser half that day celebrating a day for women would make sense. In India women when in the form of deities are being prayed to but again it is here that we see a rise in the count of rapes and molestation cases with every passing day. Alongside security issues is the perennial inequality that has been there from time immemorial. More than few movies have been subjected to this and books on women issues by renowned authors are not hard to find, but still today the stark reality continues to haunt us.
A day for hashtags and gifts and commercialization for brands to sell. Do all these things give us the freedom and independence that we should rightfully be bestowed? Instead we are still fighting for our liberation in this independent India. Empowerment is far from women’s day festivities and deals that flood the social media on the 8^th of March.
If you ask any women about this day, they will say it is nothing but a day of forced celebration. There is nothing great in having a day for yourself when your life is all about seeking permissions. Very simply put, there is no pointing in gifting us a day full of joy and depriving us of our rights for the rest of the year.
From all those women out there be it working or homemakers, affluent or menial, all that we desire is being treated equally and with respect. Just by gifting us a day full of jollity and surprises does not in the least guarantee any of that. Don’t just say ‘Happy women’s day’ , mean it!
